A library is a collection of sources, resources, and services, and the structure in which it is housed; it is organized for use and maintained by a public body, an institution, or a private individual. In the more traditional sense, a library is a collection of books. It can mean the collection, the building or room that houses such a collection, or both. The term "library" has itself acquired a secondary meaning: "a collection of useful material for common use." This sense is used in fields such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, electronics and biology. It can also be used by publishers in naming series of related books, e.g. The Library of Anglo-Catholic Theology. Libraries often provide a place of silence for studying.

Public and institutional collections and services may be intended for use by people who choose not to — or cannot afford to — purchase an extensive collection themselves, who need material no individual can reasonably be expected to have, or who require professional assistance with their research. In addition to providing materials, libraries also provide the services of librarians who are experts at finding and organizing information and at interpreting information needs.

However, with the sets and collection of media and of media other than books for storing information, many libraries are now also repositories and access points for maps, prints, or other documents and various storage media such as microform (microfilm/microfiche), audio tapes, CDs, cassettes, videotapes, DVDs, and video games. Libraries may also provide public facilities to access subscription databases and the Internet.

Thus, modern libraries are increasingly being redefined as places to get unrestricted access to information in many formats and from many sources. They are understood as extending beyond the physical walls of a building, by including material accessible by electronic means, and by providing the assistance of librarians in navigating and analyzing tremendous amounts of information with a variety of digital tools.

The library I have on nano and itunes are different. How do I retrieve library and Music I have on nano?
Q. I don't know if a guy I asked to download some music from my library to a shuffle that was given to me, deleted my library. The music in my library is not the same on my ipod and I downloaded a ton of my CD collection to my library. I don't want to re-upload them again. Please help!

A. All you need is to get all music/videos off your iPod nano and put them onto this computer and iTunes. Simply use this handy program called Tansee iPod Transfer to help you Many of my friends are using it for its easy and safe transfer. The whole process goes as follows: Simply install this program on your computer. When you plug your iPod to the computer, this program will instantly display all songs and videos on the iPod.You simply select what you wish to transfer and click "Copy" button. Done. All your selected files will be copied to your computer completely and safely. Now you can easily add those songs and videos to your iTunes library. More importantly, this won't overwrite any original files on your iPod. In this case, all… [cont.]

How can the Library of Babel be considered to have no information?
Q. I've been thinking about it over and over in my head and it still doesn't make sense. How can it contain information, yet not contain information? From Wikipedia: "In any case, it is clear that a library containing all possible books, arranged at random, is equivalent (as a source of information) to a library containing zero books." Can an infinite set be equivaalent to an empty set? How can everything be equivalent to nothing?

A. Perhaps an infinite set is not the same as an empty set in mathematical terms, but I don't believe Borges' story was meant to be defined that way. I had never heard of the Library of Babel till I read your question, and it sparked my curiosity. From the few minutes' research I did, it appears that the Library didn't include merely every book that could possibly be written in any possible language, but also every book holding every possible combination of letters, punctuation, and spaces that would fit within the size parameters. Many -- the vast majority -- would undoubtedly look like, and be, complete gibberish to readers, though some of what looked like gibberish would merely be in code. Given all that, you could theoretically start at… [cont.]

How does "itunes shared music library" work exactly?
Q. My college is on a big network, and you can see people's music libraries sometimes. I would like to share mine, but only certain songs. Can i just share a certain playlist, or do I have to share my entire library? Can they see all my playlists that I've made too? Or are they private? Idk, I've never used this feature before. :S And, do you have to do something to turn it on, or is my library automatically shared?

A. Sharing and home sharing are different Sharing just shares your entire music library with everyone on the network. you can go to the settings in iTunes and select exactly what you want to share and what you don't want to share and even set a password. Home sharing actually requires iTunes accounts while normal sharing can be by anyone Home sharing is more like for people who have a ton of iTunes stuff on their desktop and want to transfer stuff from the desktop to say their laptop or their friends laptop. this also requires another computer authorization so in a nutshell. Home Sharing requires an iTunes account and lets you copy music. normal sharing is just streaming
