What Video Game Designer Software or Program on PC is right for me?
Q. My goal in life is to become a successful Video Game Designer. I am young and I want to start my career early so I will know what to do later in life. I need a software that will let me create my own characters from scratch whatever way I want without using "human looking" models or other models. Which software of program is right for me?

A. I would really recommend the latest version of Game Maker, however in your situation, you'd have to pay to get the features you want. It is really easy to use for beginners, a simple drag and drop interface with easy to understand instructions. If you pay you can get advanced features such as using an easy to understand coding language. If 100% of the game was made by you, it is even legal to sell it. This software is really helpful for beginners in the video game industry. You can even submit your games to the yoyogames website to be played by others! Trust me, it's awesome ^^ And for drawing graphics or sprites, you can just use GIMP, a free photo editor extremely similar to photoshop. Even though GM comes with a built in sprite… [cont.]

What is required to become a video game designer?
Q. My brother wants to become a video game designer. What do you need to become one, And what are some things you do as a video game designer?
Asked by milly2hot2002 - Tue May 8 16:51:56 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You should be artistic, creative, patient, and be good at video games. You will need the creativity to create something that someone else would not. You also will need to artistic to design things. Patients is a vertue. My friend had to create a scrolling sign thingy and it took him HOURS to do a simple thing like that. When he found out at the end he screwed up on one letter he had to go back and re-program everything from the very beginning. You would want to be good at and like video games because why would you want to spend the money to go to school for something you didnt even like. Good news though...there are some big bucks in that career field if you find the right job. Game designers make a lot of money.

What are some good schools for becoming a video game designer?
Q. I recently graduated from college and i have been working in the world of finance for about a year and half and i hate it. I really like video games and feel like it might be a good career path for me, but I can't find any clear information on what the best schools to excel in that field are. I would love working as a programmer, designer, or even writer for a game developer. I realize i sound a bit naive to be saying all this but i would really like to give it a shot, does anyone have any good ideas?

Q. I'll be in college next year, and i want to make video games for life, so i was wandering, First how many years does it take to be a video game designer? Next i want to know what course do i have to take? Also, how much would i make per year?

A. I'd like to get into this field myself, but I want to develop my games with my own company. My guess is that you'll want to get a Master's Degree, which will probably take six years. You'll have to take a lot of math. As far as how much you will make depends on who you are developing for. There are a lot of independent developers that don't make much money at all off of their games. But if you were to be able to get on with a company like Square or Microsoft you'd probably be rich. Of course it's no easy task to get hired on by them, you would have to have a lot of experience.

What does it take to become a video game designer?
Q. I want to be a video game designer, what kind of education would it take? Also i have a general idea of what the job is (i know, i want to be a game designer but i don't know very much about it) can you post what you know the job requires and what it does? Thanks!!

A. You either have to be a shockingly talented computer programmer or a top-notch graphic designer. Preferably both. Making games is almost nothing like playing them. Get a textbook called Computer Graphics by Foley and Van Dam, and do every problem in it. If that book is straightforward for you, you have a shot at working at the programming side of the game industry. If you want to go the design route, you will need a bachelor of fine arts degree with a major in design or animation. Or, you can create an indy game and release it as shareware in the Internet. Some people get started that way, but it's getting rarer as gaming gets more complex.

What would be the best way to become a game designer?
Q. I have lots of fantsay, a lot of notes taken and some basic sketches. I wanna be a game designer when I enter the adulthood, but what would I need to do?
Asked by unknown - Sat Dec 12 04:10:43 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You are a game designer. Now start designing games. Find a game engine, and start learning to use it. Here's one. Or, if you are interested solely in design, and have an equally ambitious friend who is interested in becoming a software engineer, have him learn the engine, and you work with him by giving him your designs. Start simple, with stuff you know he is capable of doing.

A. Some good schools you can check out are Cal Tech and pomona. Those are hard schools to get into so some other ones you would also want to check out UCLA. California universities will have courses you can take to persue this kind of profession. Now you may not be able to major in this as an undergrad at these colleges, but ask you advisor and they should be able to direct to in the right courses that will lead you down this path. Good Luck, John K

A. Lol the first dude said not too hard! Being a game designer is extremely difficult because of the competition. Game Designing is just Programming. You need to know how to write thousands of lines of code. It isn't as glamorous as it sounds. You don't just sit around thinking about cool games to make. You just write code. If you want to learn how to do work like this. Look into C++ and start learning basic programming.

If I were you, I'd go with the school that could help me be what I wanted when I graduated. The Academy doesn't have a game design degree, but you can major in animation & visual effects or illustration and work as a character developer, production artist, 3D artist, rigger or other art centered jobs on games. If you're interested in the artistic side of game development, I don't think you could go to a better school that the Academy. A. Well, I know that JaGeX (designers of FunOrb and Runescape) ask for a Degree in Maths or Science. A Level Maths is probably a must... And of course to take a Science Degree, you must take it at A Level first. Its pretty much that simple ^^ I heard a lot of companies would rather their designers be trained from scratch by them, as if they have come from a Programme Designer Degree, they can pick up things that the company might not want them to (as they have their 'own style'.)

What do someone need to become a video game designer?
Q. My dream is to work as a video game designer for Nintendo (any other game company would be pretty much fine (EA, Blizzard)). What do I need to study and where? Am I going to need a master? Any kind of information you be happily accepted!!! Just know that, I could do anything to achieve that...

A. Well, that all depends on what exactly you want to do in the designing process. Making a video game takes tons of different specialties such as programmers, engineers, model design, various types of artists, and musicians (to name a few). After you've figured out what it is that you want to do, then you should go to a university for a bachelor's degree in a certain field (based on whatever it is you've chosen). Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Art Studio degrees are good places to start looking. You shouldn't need a master's to work for any video game company. A bachelor's should do just fine. Some might even only require an associates. I would also suggest NOT to go to a technical school like ITT Tech, for two reasons. … [cont.]
