GNU Free Documentation License Is knowledge of the German language really useful for engineers? Q. I want to be a chemical engineer when I grow up. So I am thinking of teaching myself German... Is it really that useful for engineers to know the language? I'm thinking of Arabic, Russian, Chinese, and German, and I think I can only handle two or three at once, so I'm wondering what your opinions are... Should German be on the top of the list? I wouldn't think so, My uncle is a chemical engineer and he doesn't need to speak German. He can speak French and Spanish and some German but he learnt those out of his own interest and not because of his job.
